Local Author Publishes Book on Hot Literary Trend Michael Wilson, a local writing and creative writing teacher, has had his first book Flash Writing: How to Write, Revise and Publish Stories Less Than 1,000 Words Long, (ISBN: 1589396375, 184 pages, Paperback, $14.95.) published by Virtual Bookworm. This book is the first book devoted to writing flash fiction. Flash fiction is popular for online literary magazines, but also has been regularly published by traditional print publications such as Esquire, The New Yorker, and Vanity Fair, as well as hundreds of small press literary magazines and reviews. Flash Writing explains what flash fiction is, how to create it by using the creative writing process, and how to adapt the elements of traditional fiction writing (character, point-of-view, conflict, etc.) to the flash fiction form. With flash fiction story examples and writing exercises, Flash Writing has the information to start you writing short-short fiction immediately, and to polish those stories so they will be, one day, ripe for publication. Michael says, "I wrote the book because of the demand from my students who enjoy writing short-short stories during my eight-hour writing workshops. As I sought out resources for the class, I quickly discovered that there were a lot of articles and information about flash fiction out on the Web, but no books devoted solely to writing it. Most of the books I found in print either had a chapter on flash fiction, or only mentioned it in passing. With the demand for the short-short story form being so high today, I decided that this would be the perfect subject for my first book." Flash Writing, can be purchased directly from the author at www.flashwriting.com or send email to sales@flashwriting.com. It can also be purchased at Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble.com, or through any bookstore or distributor. Michael Wilson has been teaching creative writing classes and facilitating writers groups for over 7 years and was an award-winning Contributing Editor for The Writer s Block at Suite101.com. He has a BA (with Honors) in English from Ohio University, and has been a featured guest speaker at the Thurber House, the Maumee Valley Writers Conference and the Columbus Writers Conference. He is also the publisher and editor of Grist for the Muse, a free monthly creative writing e-newsletter. Flash Writing: How to Write, Revise and Publish Stories Less Than 1000 Words Long, is his first book.
