The Downtown Writers Network is a resource for independent writers in central Ohio.

Located in Columbus, we provide services to freelancers, businesses that use freelance talent, and all creative writers in the dynamic mid-Ohio market.

This Week's Writing Events:  June 21 - 27, 2009

I recently returned from a trip to Philadelphia where, among the other landmarks of American history, I was able to visit the Market Street boarding house where Thomas Jefferson stayed and, according to legend, drafted the Declaration of Independence.

As another Independence Day approaches, I believe it's good to remember that our democracy was established upon words, and those words were produced by geniuses who among other accomplishments were highly talented writers.

We belong to a noble profession that's deeply connected not only to the foundation of liberty, but to its protection as well. Time and again through our history, American writers have been the ones to expose the political corruptions and economic abuses that have endangered the Republic. American journalists, essayists, poets and novelists (and, one might add, bloggers and web writers) continue to stand on the front lines in defense of what Jefferson created in the little boarding house room in Philadelphia.

As we celebrate the 4th this year, let's celebrate our profession as well.

Visit our monthly calendar or our "This Week" page for more information on these events and lots of others
